I am a veteran or a constituent with a great concern. America has abandoned some of its’ truest allies- Tribes of mountain people called Montagnards fought beside our troops throughout the war in Vietnam. These men were soldiers who took on the most dangerous missions and the women often were nurses. Our allies were and are the Montagnards.
At the end of the war (for us), the victorious Vietnamese fell on these people with a terrible vengeance and they still exact their revenge to this day. Montagnards are not allowed to practice their Christian religion, own land or get basic education or medical care. The penalty for most “crimes” is death. Consequently, many flee toward their only hope of safety - UN Refugee Camps in Cambodia. At these camps, they may be held for years, raped, killed or returned to certain death in Vietnam.
Three things must be done immediately:
1. Get the Vietnamese government to live up to the human rights sections of our trade agreements with them.
2. Make sure the United Nations run the camps properly, and have the Montagnard requests for refugee status accurately translated and presented to the U. S. State Department. A non-profit organization Save The Montagnard People, Inc. (STMP) has offered to supply translators to work in these camps.
3. Have the U. S. State Department consider these requests for resettlement efficiently and act favorably toward these people.
We asked these Montagnard people to die for us and with us. Now I’m asking you to work for them. Please notify me of any progress so I can share the good news with my friends.
